When we built our home we planned to install an alarm system with burglar, heat and smoke detectors. Based on the recommendation of Steve Hart we added the carbon monoxide sensor, he explained it would add a level of protection in the event we had a malfunction in the heating system.
In mid December 2002 we had that experience, during a snow storm our heating intake and exhaust pipes became incased in a snow drift allowing the intake to suck in exhaust fumes. The result was a slow build up of carbon monoxide gas. Around 3am the alarm went off and the phone started ringing to let us know there was a problem. I was in disbelief a new home, new heating system, nothing is likely to go wrong and yet it did. There was no strong odor no way to know if we didn't have the detector. I believe my family was in grave danger and we are alive today because Steve took the time to explain the risk so I could make the right decision to add the Carbon Monoxide Sensor to my system. These facts speak for themselves, I believe all homes should install these detectors they truly save lives.
Thanks Steve you were right.
